Sharon C Cunningham
Dr Sharon Cunningham received her PhD in Applied Biology and Biotechnology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in 1997. After 5 years working as a postdoctoral research assistant in Molecular and Cellular Development at the University of Warwick, UK, she is now a senior researcher in the Gene Therapy Research Unit at the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) at Westmead. Her research focuses on the development of adeno-associated viral vectors for the treatment of metabolic genetic liver disease in paediatric patients. We are currently on a trajectory to the clinic with an AAV-mediated gene therapy to treat OTC deficiency in collaboration with UCL (UK). Dr Cunningham has been an Executive Committee member of the Australasian Gene and Cell Therapy Society now since 2011.
