Cindy Kok
Cindy Kok undertook a PhD at the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Her research focus was liver targeted gene therapy using AAV for urea cycle defects.
She then received fellowships from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the Asia Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) and the Endeavour Research Fellowship for a postdoctoral position at the University of Tokyo (JAPAN) and the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (JAPAN). In this role, she investigated the role of liver stem cells in regeneration and tumorigenesis, and the use of AAV mediated gene therapy to treat non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.
She is now based in Sydney at the Centre for Heart Research in the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. In her current position, she will be using her experience to develop gene and cellular therapy strategies to protect the heart against anti-cancer drug induced cardiotoxicity.
