Ruth L Monk

Ruth Monk is a final year doctoral candidate in the Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Ruth is completing their PhD in the Neural Reprogramming and Repair Lab under the supervision of Professor Bronwen Connor in the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology. Their thesis focuses on the use of direct cell reprogramming of adult human fibroblasts into neural precursor cells and striatal neurons for the in vitro study of the neurodegenerative disorder Huntington’s disease. Ruth received a Bachelor of Science degree with First Class Honours in Biomedical Science from the University of Auckland. Ruth’s research interests include neurodevelopmental conditions, neurological disorders, and cell reprogramming technologies. Ruth has been awarded a Neurological Foundation of New Zealand Gillespie Doctoral Scholarship, a University of Auckland Doctoral Scholarship, and a Brain Research New Zealand Scholarship, to support their doctoral studies.
