Thierry Jarde

Dr Thierry Jarde is a Laboratory Head in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology at Monash University. He is a Stem Cell Biologist who has worked for more than 10 years with organoids and mouse models to study gene function. He completed his doctoral studies at the School of Pharmacy (Clermont-Ferrand) in France before conducting postdoctoral training under the supervision of Professor Trevor Dale at the School of Biosciences (Cardiff University, UK) where he studied the role of WNT and NRG1 signalling in intestinal and mammary gland biology. He also developed key organoid models during this time. In 2012, Thierry joined Professor Helen Abud’s Lab at Monash University as a post-doctoral fellow. Thierry is now Deputy Director of the Organoid program at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. He collaborates with clinicians to grow organoids from human tissues. These organoids are currently being used for a variety of biological studies, including drug testing. Thierry is interested in different aspects of adult stem cell biology. In particular, his research focuses on understanding the role of stem cells and their associated niche cells during normal homeostasis, tissue regeneration and tumourigenesis.
